Kitchen cupboard door hinge repairs Most kitchen cabinet doors are constructed using MDF or chipboard. Not great materials for wet areas like kitchens, laundries and bathrooms. But the scale of economies come into play, these materials are affordable to middle to low income households.
As property maintenance specialists we have repaired countless kitchen, bathroom and laundry cabinet door hinges. The fixing method is often very small screws that do not provide adequate fixing. In most of our maintenance call outs, the hinges are either broken or have come adrift and have been fixed many times and in many ways before.
Forget about all the suggested methods of repair, which include masonry plugs, epoxy resin and repair kit plates.
Our method is the long term fix option.
Remove hinges, lay the door on top of saw stools with drop cloth below to protect surfaces
Using a hinge mounting bit, core new cut holes, secure hinges with 15mm large gauge screws, back fill old holds with resin, allow to dry and sand flush. This will protect exposed MDF from old cup rehang doors using 15mm large gauge screws. This method avoids using the old screw holds and is essentially like new.
We also apply a small bead of clear silicone around the cup holes so any moisture that runs down the inside of the doors does not penetrate the MDF.
